faq

Welcome to the faq page! Here you will find answers to commonly asked questions about my sessions. Please feel free to contact me if your question is not addressed here.

1) Where are you located? Where do you shoot?

-I am located in Clinton, NJ.  Newborn and some child sessions are conducted in my home studio. Various outdoor locations are used for child and maternity sessions and can be discussed when you consider booking a session. Time and travel expenses will be applied in certain circumstances.

2) When should I book a newborn session?

-Simply put…anytime after you’ve decided that you want to capture this precious time in your family’s life. I strongly encourage booking while you are still expecting as sessions are best done within 10 days of baby’s arrival.  This allows us to get those sweet, sleepy poses that you will cherish forever. A completed contract and your session fee will be due to reserve your date. Your date will be moved according to your progress.

3) How long is a newborn session and what do I need to bring?

-Sessions are typically 3 hours long and because we invest so much time in your session, it is necessary to bring several key items. I recommend that you bring multiple feedings, a couple of pacifiers (if you are using them), and a change of clothes for YOU (inevitably, baby will pee/poop during the session while unclothed so it’s helpful to have backup)! You are also welcome to bring any props of special meaning to your session.  I just kindly request that you limit them to 1 or 2 and send me a photo beforehand so that I can best plan to incorporate your special item(s). All other props are provided by me and we can discuss your preferences at the time of your session start.

4) I would like to include my older child{ren} in the photo and/or  I would like some parent shots. How does this change the session fee and the session dynamic?

-A newborn session is $200+tax. There is an additional charge for family shots (both examples above). For both parent and sibling shots, we discuss styling and preferences beforehand. Specifically for sibling shots, it is necessary that an additional adult accompany you to the session so that once the older child{ren}’s part of the session is done, they may be taken home separately. In my experience, this is the least stressful way to handle the session for all those involved (and you can enjoy the newborn part of the session!)

5) Who can I bring to the session?

-I strongly encourage you to come with only one additional, immediate family member. I strive to provide a relaxing and calm environment that is important for the momentum of the session. Getting a newborn posed takes time, patience and careful handling. It is important that not only the photos you get are memorable, but that the session is as well and the biggest part of that is enjoying seeing your baby in all those adorable poses!

6) How do I reserve my date?

-A completed contract and the session fee are due upfront to reserve your date. I cannot hold dates without these two requirements.

7) Can I take video or cell phone photos during my session?

– This is respectfully prohibited.

8) What happens after the session?

-The turnaround time for your online gallery is 2-3 weeks. You will receive a link and a password to your gallery (this may be shared). The gallery will be active for one week. Print and canvas orders may be made through this site (by anyone who has the link and password). Digital files are purchased through me. A $25 fee will be incurred to repost any galleries after they have expired.

9) What is your policy on rescheduling or cancellation?

-Please contact me for specifics.

10) What do I need to know about prints?

-Purchasing professional prints is an investment. A pricelist is available upon request. These are the pieces that you want to display, frame and gift to others. They are high quality, have longevity, are color appropriate and have a beautiful finish. And while there is certainly a place for prints that are produced at a chain store, there is so much variation, you cannot be assured of the quality (and it WILL vary from store to store).

-The other significant thing to mention when ordering prints is to pay close attention to aspect ratios. This is something that we discuss together during every session.

11) I want to buy the digital files. How does that work?

-Files are available either as single files or as a gallery of 20. A pricelist is available upon request. With the purchase of any digital files, you will receive  both the high resolution (un-resized) photos and a resized/watermarked version for social media sharing. A print release is also issued for personal use. Partial gallery purchases are not offered. Please remember that you are NOT purchasing the copyright to these photos. You are purchasing the right to reproduce them for personal use.

12) My baby is more than the recommended 10 day age for photographing. What are my options?

-There is never a “wrong” time to photograph. The recommended 10 day timeframe is an industry standard that allows for ease of posing. The dispositions of all babies are different and a one month old can sometimes be just as easy to work with as a younger newborn. Please contact me so that we may review the session expectations in more detail.

13) Do you provide the cake for cake smash sessions?

-This is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Suggestions for vendors and styling are always discussed.

14) What is the best time to do a maternity shoot?

-It is generally recommended that you plan your maternity photography session in the late second or early third trimester.  You want to be clearly showing but still feel comfortable enough to enjoy the process.  Earlier than that and the belly may not be prominent enough, later than that and you may feel uncomfortable.  But every woman and every pregnancy is different, so listening to your body is always a good idea.

15) Do you offer announcements or stationary products?

-At this time, I am not offering announcements, holiday cards, or other stationary products as part of my regular pricelist. If you would like to discuss this service, please contact me.

16) I want to share my images on Facebook or other social media sites. What do I need to know?

-The copyright belongs to Stefanie Politi Photography. All images shared on social media sites should maintain my watermark and be the appropriately sized images. Please do not alter my photos in any way.

17) How long are my images stored?

-I am not responsible for image storage after your initial post-session purchase has been completed.

18) How does Stefanie Politi Photography use my images?

-This is covered in detail in your contract. Images are not used without written permission.

19) Do you offer gift certificates?

-Yes! In any denomination. They expire 6 months from the date of issuance.

20) Do you offer a referral program?

-Yes! A referral is the best compliment and as a way of saying thank you, I extend you a $25 session fee credit toward a future session. The client that you refer must be  a new client and that client must book a session with me in order to qualify.
